Quilting Services & Rates

With 16+ years of sewing and quilting experience, I love helping with all the finishing details to help my clients turn their quilt tops into beautifully finished quilts.

From quilting design ideas that will enhance your quilt top, to thread color selection and help choosing the perfect batting, I can help make your final quilt shine. I especially love working with newer quilters and being part of the joy of completing their first finished quilts and helping them grow their skills.

What if you already know exactly what you want? No problem at all. :) You can enter your selections on the intake form and I’ll get straight to work on the quilting.

Quilting Services

I offer a variety of free-motion quilting services, from allover designs to custom quilting. You can select your preference on the intake form, or I'm happy to discuss options with you if you're not sure which level of quilting would work best for your quilt.

Batting Options & Pricing

The type of batting you choose makes a difference in the final quilt. Batting varieties provide different amounts of loft, drape and warmth, and can also require different types of care. I am happy to discuss and help you choose the right batting (or double-batting combinations!) for your quilt.

I use and stock my favorite high quality batting, Quilters Dream. My stocked varieties are listed below, but I can also special order another Quilters Dream variety; just note it when you fill out the quilting request form and I will check for availability.

Batting is a separate charge and is NOT included in the square inch quilting price.

I cut from queen rolls of batting if I have them in stock and charge by the linear inch. I will use only what is needed for your quilt (smallest side + a 5" margin). For prepackaged battings I charge by the package and use the smallest size that will work for your quilt.

For example, if you have a 60" x 80" quilt, I would cut 65" of the batting of your choice.
65" of 100% cotton select loft @ $0.38/in = $24.70
65" of wool @ $0.42/in = $21.45

Cotton batting symbol

100% Cotton Select

A mid-weight batting that will soften and drape more beautifully over time. Gives that classic crinkly texture you see in vintage quilts. Machine washable and dryable.

Wool

The higher loft makes wool a wonderful choice when you want the quilting to really stand out. It will keep you warm when it's cold, but also wicks moisture so you'll stay cool in the summer.  Air dry only.

Bamboo batting symbol

Bamboo

An underrated gem. Bamboo batting is a lightweight batting perfect for summmer or warmer weather and has an absolutely beautiful drape. I encourage you to give it a try!

My most common batting, Cotton Deluxe has the same benefits and features of Cotton Select, in a heavier weight. This means it will make a warmer quilt, be a little heavier, and does a lovely job showing off the quilting.

Binding Services

I am happy to help with binding and offer a variety of binding services, including separate options for making the binding and attaching.

Making Binding

You can choose to have me make binding for you, which can then be returned with your quilt for you to attach yourself, or I can attach for you to one or both sides of the quilt.

Alternately, if you'd like to make the binding yourself but have me attach it I'm happy to do that as well. You can select from separate making and attaching options when you book quilting.

Attaching Binding

I can attach binding to one side by machine, for you to finish at home, or I can attach to both sides for you. I attach binding to the back by hand.

I'm also very excited to announce I'm now offering big stitch binding! With this technique the binding is attached to the front by machine, and then hand sewn to the back using perle cotton and a visible running stitch along the edge of the binding. This makes for an extra fun and decorative addition to the back of your quilt!

You can choose to bring me binding and have me attach it to one or both sides of your quilt, or have me make the binding as well!

Thread

I stock Premo-Soft (#50 weight) thread in a variety of colors. Premo-Soft is made by the makers of Glide thread, and is a strong polyester thread with a beautiful finish that looks like cotton. Thread is included as part of my quilting service at no additional charge.

I usually match or blend the thread color with your quilt top, but there are occasionally times when a contrasting or bright color can add some fun and really enhance the quilt. When you request quilting you can always designate if you have a thread color preference or would like me to choose.

Shipping

Shipping your top and backing to me: I live in Minnesota, USA, and would be happy to receive your top and backing by mail. To package your materials, first enclose in some kind of plastic sack or bag to protect from any moisture in transit, and then placed in a hard-sided cardboard box. Make sure the box is securely taped and labeled clearly.

Return shipping: I will send your quilt back to you in the manner described above via USPS Priority mail (using flat rate when possible/economical). Priority mail automatically comes with $100 of insurance and a tracking number, but you also have the option when requesting quilting to select if you would like me to purchase any additional insurance on your behalf. It's a great idea to insure your quilt against loss or damage while with USPS, but is not required.

Sales Tax

I'm required by the State of Minnesota to collect sales tax on the quilting service, batting and shipping for all MN residents. If you live outside MN I do not need to charge you sales tax.

Payment

After the work is complete, I will electronically invoice you. I really do appreciate timely payments as that enables me to return your project(s) back to you right away.
